01/9Do these things about breast cancer?

Even after being the most common type of cancer, breast cancer harbors numerous misconceptions that everyone widely believes. Right from underwire bras to antiperspirants and deodorants, all are believed to cause this disease, which is nothing more than mere tales. While the awareness of breast cancer is high, the actual knowledge is surprisingly low. And in the dearth of facts, these myths can have major implications on your health. Signs of breast cancer include forming a lump, thickening the breast, and changes to the skin or the nipple, which can be caused due to genetic and lifestyle factors. Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy are some of the standard treatments for breast cancer.

Here are 8 important things everyone must know about breast cancer:

02/9It is not age-specific

Breast cancer does not happen at any particular age. It can happen to women of all age groups. Whether you are 23 or 50, your chances of developing breast cancer are the same. So, as soon as you feel any lump or witness any abnormalities in your breast, get yourself diagnosed. Avoiding the matter for a long time can be harmful.

03/9Not everyone has to go through the same thing

Being diagnosed with breast cancer can be traumatizing. Everyone around you will tell you different kinds of stories related to this disease, but not everything you hear is believed. Not all cancer treatment has similar ends.

04/9There is nothing to worry about chemotherapy

It is quite normal to feel worried about the entire process of chemotherapy, but it is not that bad. Some people do experience severe side effects, while others don’t. It entirely depends on your condition and is an effective treatment course for cancer.

05/9Always get a second opinion

After being diagnosed with breast cancer, it is always advised to get a second opinion. Sometimes, the doctor can miss out on the symptoms the first time around, making your condition worse. So, if you genuinely feel that something is not right, then consult another doctor. Even for medications, it is good to get a second opinion.

06/9Treatment can be draining

There is no denying the treatment of breast cancer can be quite draining, both emotionally and physically. Going to the hospital twice or thrice in a month for chemo, watching your hair fall can be heartbreaking. The urge to quit might be very high, but stay strong and keep moving.

07/9Breast cancer is curable

The good news is that the survival chances of breast cancer patients are the highest. About 95 percent of people suffering from this disease got cured completely after receiving proper treatment.

08/9Even men get breast cancer

Breast cancer is not a disease restricted to women; even men can suffer from this disease. About one percent of all breast cancers are detected in men. So, if you are a man and have detected a strange lump in your pectoral region, then you should meet a doctor.
